چکیده
Transfusion-dependent thalassemia is the most severe form of thalassemia; patients require regular blood transfusions to maintain their hemoglobin level. The COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted routine measures for controlling chronic diseases like thalassemia. This study aims measure difference in pre-transfusion levels and frequency before during pandemic. retrospective cross-sectional utilized medical record data 101 transfusion-dependent (TDT) treated Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital (CMH) from 2019–2021. dependent variables this were level transfusion attendance. pre-pandemic phase was defined as 30 March 2019 29 2020, whereas during-pandemic 2020 2021. Up 59.4% subjects had suboptimal Hb <9.0 g/dL, even pandemic, increased 71.3% mean 8.71 decreased 8.46 g/dL (p value < 0.001). Transfusion attendance showed no significant (p-value = 0.990). Our shows poorer control puts at higher risk developing many long-term complications.

Prevalence of Alloantibodies and Autoantibodies in Transfusion Dependent Thalassemia Patients
Background: The development of anti-red blood cell alloantibodies remains a major problem in transfusion of blood in thalassemia major patients. Also, Autoantibodies can result in clinical hemolysis and difficulty in cross-matching blood. We studied the frequency of red blood cell alloimmunization and autoimmunization among thalassemia patients who received regular transfusions in Ilam province...

Background Patients with thalassemia major and intermedia are susceptible to osteopenia and osteoporosis. The mechanism of osteoporosis in these patients is multifactorial. Transfusion related iron overload in endocrine organs leads to impaired growth hormone secretion, diabetes mellitus, hypothyroidism, hypoparathyroidism, lack of sex steroids and vitamin D deficiency that contribute t...

Abstract Background Multiple transfusions in thalassemia patients may lead to antibody production against blood group antigens and hemolytic transfusion reaction might occur. In this study, antibody screening test was performed by tube and gel methods to determine the prevalence and specificity of alloantibodies in thalassemia patients. Materials and Methods In this cross-sectional study, overa...

Advances in the management of transfusion dependent thalassemic patients have improved the survival of these patients. The most important consequence of repeated and frequent transfusions is iron accumulation in vital organs. The magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a non-invasive and valid technique for the estimation of iron stores. Despite multiple studies about cardiac and liver MRI T2*, the...
